I’m Charles Ridgway from Santa Cruz, CA. Currently, I’m a second-year Photo/Video student at California Polytechnic State University, but I’m mostly focused on making videos. I’m fascinated by filmmakers like Christopher Nolan, and the expressive ideas behind Pictorialism really resonate with me. I notice nuances and oddities in how I experience and take in my day-to-day life, and I like to represent these oddities in my videos. I’ve spent many days of my life on a mountain bike, so I often make riding films that are visually driven, with minimal dialogue. But I often feel the need to make something with more meaning, so I get into abstract and narrative pieces too. These projects usually dig into stuff like addiction, individual perception, and how a person frames reality. Through my work as a videographer for Mustang Media Group, I’ve done several advertisements for local businesses, media products, and events. Still, my long term goal is to chase storytelling that sits somewhere between big-scale cinema and independent experimental filmmaking.
